Stages of Alchemy
Every transformation begins somewhere.
At Haus of Alchemy, we've found that most people arrive in one of four places.
Some are in the middle of a breakdown, facing something they can no longer avoid, something finally cracking open after being buried for far too long. Others are past the crisis and searching for clarity, ready to see themselves and their patterns clearly for the first time. Some are already in the work, actively refining, tending to their energy, no longer in emergency but not yet settled. And some have already done the deepest work and are simply returning, again and again, to what already feels like home.
These four places are not random. They mirror the four ancient stages of alchemical transformation, Nigredo, Albedo, Citrinitas, and Rubedo, a process practiced for centuries as a map for turning raw, unrefined material into something whole and true. The alchemists understood that real transformation isn't linear and it isn't quick. It moves in stages, each one necessary, each one building on the last, and each one capable of being revisited as life continues to ask more of you.
Your alchemical journey of becoming is not a straight line from broken to healed. It's a living, breathing process. You may move through all four stages in a single season, or spend years deepening inside one. You may arrive in Nigredo after a plant medicine ceremony, find yourself in Albedo after years of therapy, or realize you've been in Rubedo all along and simply needed someone to name it.
None of these places is better than another. They're simply different doorways into the same sacred work of becoming whole. The question is not whether you're on the path. The question is where you are on it right now.
Nigredo is a season of confronting what can no longer be ignored. Something has cracked open - a loss, a pattern, a moment of truth that arrived before you felt ready. This is not a breakdown. This is the beginning.
This stage invites you to stop running from what's been buried and start moving through it. The ground feels unsteady because something real is shifting beneath it. We hold space for exactly this.
